Ten Massage Tips
- Use the restroom prior to your massage.
- As you make arrangements for your
massage with the receptionist tell him/her if you have any areas of your
body, neck and shoulders for example, in which you would like special
emphasis or perhaps want to avoid altogether. Also tell the
receptionist if you would like your massage to be more firm or light.
If you would like an especially firm massage your best bet is to select
the Deep Tissue massage.
- Consider a "Four Hands" massage if you
would like to literally double your massage experience for a
surprisingly small additional cost.
- After the therapist shows you to your
treatment room she/he will leave you alone for a few minutes so that you
can remove your clothes and lay face down on the table and use the towel
provided to cover body's mid section.
- As you lie on the table with your face
in the face cradle, and be aware of your breathing. Do two or three deep
breaths and exhalations when you lie down. These should be slow in and a
little faster on the exhale.
- Try not to talk for most of the massage.
Silence is another gift which can have an immeasurable impact on your
peacefulness. When the therapist is pushing down on muscle, let the air
out of your lungs in time with the pressure. Breathe in as the therapist
pulls back his or her pressure.
- When it is time to turn over onto you
back, the therapist will lift the towel and turn her/his head allowing
you to turn over with privacy. Women will be provided with two
towels - one for their mid section and the other to cover their breasts.
- As the therapist moves your arms, legs
or head, relax your muscles - you do not need to assist the therapist.
Think of your massage as a dance. Be involved and aware of the touch and
pressure. Do your part to breathe into and out of the massage.
- Allow yourself to drift off into a state
of semi-conciseness.
Take your time getting up after your massage is over so that your body
and mind remain relaxed.
- A good massage releases toxins from your
muscles. Ironically, one of the results of a good massage is a
slight headache. Drink plenty of water after your massage to help
rid your system of these toxins.
